The online renewal option
Right now, renewing a Canadian passport means a paper application—mailed or brought to a Service Canada office. The online option would accept photos and payment electronically, cutting out the physical form.
The paper process stays available. But the online path is expected to be faster. Watch for a landing page on Canada.ca after the launch.
It’s not yet confirmed whether the online tool will handle all renewal types, such as name changes or damaged passports, or only straightforward adult renewals. The minister’s remarks will outline the full parameters.
After the press conference
IRCC posts a news release on Canada.ca with the new tool’s web address and any transition details. Until that release, use the current paper forms.
