On May 8, 2026, IRCC committed $7.18 million to eight new projects under the International Migration Capacity Building Program (IMCBP). The funding covers 12- to 30-month initiatives in six countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
None of these projects directly alter Express Entry profiles or work permit applications. They fund governance improvements, integration programs, and research on migration pathways in partner countries.
Project breakdown
The $200,000 project in Vietnam runs for 24 months. It builds transparent labour migration systems.
The $2.96 million project for Latin America and the Caribbean runs for 30 months. It creates safe and regular migration pathways.
The $715,000 project in Colombia and Ecuador improves socioeconomic integration of migrants.
The $990,000 project in the Dominican Republic strengthens institutional practices for migration management.
The $1.01 million project in Costa Rica integrates migrants through regularization and employment support.
The $156,692 project in Kenya builds evidence and capacity for LGBTQI+ refugee inclusion.
The $1 million project for mixed migration in Latin America improves response mechanisms.
What this means for applicants
The projects do not open new application streams. They shape how Canada collaborates with source countries on migration management over the long term. Future Express Entry category-based selection may draw on data from these initiatives, but no immediate changes are in effect.
Watch for updates on the IMCBP on IRCC’s website. The next funding round has not been announced.
